Throwback to EN RESTAURANT, SANTA CLARA

6:15 AM

Ciao Bella,

After my partner Thalia whined about how I never post or update this blog, here's my first food post, in a restaurant that we visited almost two years ago. Yup, that's how long I procrastinate. Sorry Thaliwa :) This post has been sitting in Draft for too long it might have grown molds. Teehee.

This is EN RESTAURANT, a comfy Japanese Restaurant located in Santa Clara, California. Thalia and I went to this restaurant two years ago when we were still in the same community college. We went with several friends and tried some food. Here are the foods that we tried:
Oden

My friend introduced me to this traditional Japanese food called 'Oden'. Actually if you are a fan of Japanese Manga, you're probably already familiar with this dish as it appears in many Japanese comic books (Crayon Sinchan, to name one). And well, this was my first time seeing real-life Oden, and I was sooooo excited about it!

Raw fish liver with ponzu sauce

I have to say, this one is not my favorite. You can tell from the taste that the fish has lost its freshness and you can even smell it if you put it close enough to your nose. Bleh. Sorry chef, gotta catch fresher fish next time and take the liver out of it while. still. fresh. please.

Uni fried clay pot rice (with poached egg)

For uni lovers, definitely try this one! The soft uni combined with runny egg yolk from the poached egg is an experience you would not want to miss!

Unagi over rice with broth in the teapot

This dish is perfect to enjoy on a cold weather. It warms up your body and boost your energy! Such a sweet heavenly goodness in a bowl. The broth was separated from the rice dish to prevent the rice from being too mushy when kept long in liquid. So when you're ready to eat it, you just need to pour the broth in that teapot and voila! The dish is ready to eat. YUM!

Braised pork over rice (with poached egg )

This dish is one of their most favorite dish. The server recommended this to us and we gobbled it up in a matter of minutes. The saltiness and tenderness from the pork combined with sweet and creamy texture of the egg that just melts in your mouth will bring your happiness to the next level. (Okay, I exaggerate. But it was delicious, I promise xD)

Mochi Sundae

Who, who, WHO IN THE WORLD doesn't like the soft gooey texture of a good mochi? NOBODY. And this dish is a must try for mochi lover because as you can see, the mochi is combined with other heavenly goodness such as that fluffy whipped cream, sweet caramel sauce, and not to mention the crunchy cracker that is the perfect complement of this dish. Holy Moly.
